tiger newA friend of mine who I really admire for her commitment to lifting posted a new regiment she was doing. I don’t know half the exercises listed or have access to all the equipment needed for some but what I liked was the theory behind the exercises. Normally I lift the heaviest weight I can for 10-20 reps one set. This involved 5 sets with 6-8 reps with 10 seconds of rest between sets. I tried it today and really enjoyed the workout. I will probably rotate out on this during my week or maybe make it constant. Definitely liked trying it and it felt great too. I think its important to add to your repertoire in order to keep exercise fun and exciting. Really glad I made it to the gym this morning and got to try this out. Looking forward to the gym tomorrow. Its all about getting in there and doing the work.

Tiger backI both love and hate rest days. I love rest days cause I do feel my body recovering from the day before work out. At the same time I hate them because I easily let one rest day slip into another rest day. I was doing an everyday gym thing now I get in 3-4 times. I can’t decide which is having the better effect constant gym or gym with rest. I will keep bouncing between the two, Just need to get better about not going too many days with rest.,

Tiger backWoke up and no back pain. Still did some stretches and yoga before hitting the gym this morning. Moving about like nothing was wrong at all yesterday. I am glad I was smart about it but also glad that since I have been working out my body bounces back a little faster even if I am older. Did my standard weights and exercises this morning. Even went up on a couple.

Tiger backI woke up with serious back pain this morning. Normally I would use it as an excuse not to get up and go to the gym but I didnt let it get in the way. I did some stretches and some yoga instead and then strapped my shoes on and went to the gym. I was super careful with what weight exercises I did and kept the weights lighter with more reps but I was still happy to get in the gym and do my time. Back is still a little wonky but I will just make sure to get in some more yoga time tonight before bed.

TigerfiercebabyThis week I weighed in at 250 again and BMI went up to 34%. I missed the gym a couple days and steps were abysmal. This week going to get back on track. I did do some cooking this weekend and it was awesome. I cooked some chicken breasts with just coconut oil and spices. My house guests said it was better than the italian dressing ones I do so maybe I will keep it simple. I also did a batch of rumaki which is always a hit. I dont know why liver gets such a bad reputation they are tasty especially wrapped in bacon. I still have a bunch of mutton cubes to cook. I have also been cutting down the protein shake intake. Hope to find a good balance. That is all.

Tiger-Wallpaper-tigers-16120028-1024-768Back in the gym this morning and was super happy to find I had not loss any of my progress over my vacation. In fact I was able to go up 5 to 10 lbs on all of my lifts and do longer sets with each. I probably need to fit in more rest days in my normal routine. Usually I go every day and only do short sets but I am guessing that the muscles still need time to repair even if only being worked slightly. We will see. Overall super happy with results and people are starting to notice the muscle gain which is awesome too.

I swear me using resistance bands is like that tiger staring at the ball of rope. I have no idea if I am doing it right but I keep trying. I have watched a few videos on exercises with resistance bands and have attempted most of them. It just doesn’t feel right. Not wrong just not like lifting free weights. I can feel some burn and soreness but it doesn’t feel like enough. Even when I use the tighter bands then I get no where cause they don’t budge. I am sure there is a correct way or I am using them the correct way and just shouldn’t expect the same results as actual weights.

Resistance BandsI got my resistance bands yesterday and since I woke up a little later than normal I decided to try them out instead of going to the gym this morning. I tried a few of the suggested workouts in the pamphlet that came with the bands. I can tell I need to try experiment more with the bands and find the right tension. Either it was too easy or too tough but I didnt want to wast time trying each one this morning., i will take another crack at them tonight. I also need to watch some Youtube videos to find some good exercises with them. I cant really tell if I actually got a workout from the or not. I think I prefer weights but I am not discounting the bands yet. I am willing to believe it is more operator error than anything else.

In other news my first week back fitbitting and I am successful for getting my 10k steps and 5 miles or more each day. Pretty happy with that accomplishment. Was able to get all of my steps in yesterday even with having a friend over to watch a movie. If you haven’t seen John Wick you should cause it is awesome. 2nd viewing was just as good as first viewing.

TigerWalkingCloserHgI have done the walk 10k steps/5 miles a day thing off and on for the last 3 years. I really believe it was one of the big helpers for getting me to lose as much weight as I did when I first did Paleo back in 2013. I can actually keep up the habit pretty well but when I fall off the wagon i fall hard. I think I average without trying between 2400 and 4000 steps a day at work and on a weekend when I am just sitting around my apartment 1000 to 2000. So it takes some effort to actually get my step count back to 10k a day. I always forget though how much my legs and feet hate me for adding in those extra steps. Perhaps the smart man would ease it up but I just jump right in. Last 2 days 10k steps goal reached. I eliminate any pleasurable things like reading or playing games until I hit my goal at night. So 2 day streak.

Tiger eating

The more I research on weight training the more I realize I need to add more protein in my diet. I have some good sources in my whole food diet but I will be trying out some supplements soon with protein powder. I guess I will be moving towards a little more primal than paleo with my whey protein but I would rather be doing it right than doing it wrong. I’m not going to be replacing meals but supplementing my meals with protein shakes in the morning before my workout and right after. Rest of my diet should relatively stay the same. Lets see how this goes
