Resistance BandsI got my resistance bands yesterday and since I woke up a little later than normal I decided to try them out instead of going to the gym this morning. I tried a few of the suggested workouts in the pamphlet that came with the bands. I can tell I need to try experiment more with the bands and find the right tension. Either it was too easy or too tough but I didnt want to wast time trying each one this morning., i will take another crack at them tonight. I also need to watch some Youtube videos to find some good exercises with them. I cant really tell if I actually got a workout from the or not. I think I prefer weights but I am not discounting the bands yet. I am willing to believe it is more operator error than anything else.

In other news my first week back fitbitting and I am successful for getting my 10k steps and 5 miles or more each day. Pretty happy with that accomplishment. Was able to get all of my steps in yesterday even with having a friend over to watch a movie. If you haven’t seen John Wick you should cause it is awesome. 2nd viewing was just as good as first viewing.

TigerfiercebabyThis week I got back down 250lbs and maintained a 32 BMI. I realize that the amount of calories I am adding in from the protein shakes was spiking me up this week and I hit 255 at one point. So this weekend I cut back on calories in my meals. So instead of supplemental I will be looking at one of my shakes as a replacement meal. I hit the gym every day and have my rest day today which is still yoga and some body weight exercises (main reason Monday is rest day is gym is closed). I cooked and bought way too much food the week before so I am letting the leftovers carry into this week and not doing anything but veggies this week for dinners. We will see playing with calorie counting this week what results I can attain on the weight side. Hoping to see a nice downward trend start this week.

Green SmoothieI don’t know if the title statement is actually true but it seems to be the philosophy of one of my extended stay couchsurfer flatmates. She has been experimenting with my new smoothie blender she calls the toy. So far I have been greeted with “try this!” in the form of spinach, beet and a bitter gourd smoothie. The bitter gourd was pretty disgusting but I am sure it was super healthy. The blender came with a smoothie recipe book and with fresh vegetable and fruit markets all around I expect us to be experimenting with many a new smoothie concoction. Its like Healthy Alchemy.

TigerWalkingCloserHgI have done the walk 10k steps/5 miles a day thing off and on for the last 3 years. I really believe it was one of the big helpers for getting me to lose as much weight as I did when I first did Paleo back in 2013. I can actually keep up the habit pretty well but when I fall off the wagon i fall hard. I think I average without trying between 2400 and 4000 steps a day at work and on a weekend when I am just sitting around my apartment 1000 to 2000. So it takes some effort to actually get my step count back to 10k a day. I always forget though how much my legs and feet hate me for adding in those extra steps. Perhaps the smart man would ease it up but I just jump right in. Last 2 days 10k steps goal reached. I eliminate any pleasurable things like reading or playing games until I hit my goal at night. So 2 day streak.

GNC1-13512494dtI was very apprehensive about using protein powder. I have no idea why. Perhaps I thought it wasn’t for me or not necessary or that it would taste nasty. After doing some googling and a good bit of research plus speaking to friends who are trainers or train I felt perhaps I should be taking protein powder as a supplement. Still wasnt sure if it was going to taste nasty or not. This weekend I took the plunge and bought the smallest bag of Whey Protein I could. Which is fricken expensive. The next morning before my workout I made a shake. Damn that was tasty. After my workout I made another shake. Still tasty. I immediately went out and bought the big container of Whey protein. I also got a discount card because dame that shit is expensive, So I give the chocolate flavor 2 thumbs up. I will try out some of the other flavors as I go on for variety but as I am a creature of habit I will probably stick with chocolate. It will be a few weeks before I will really say it is helping with my weight training. I think it is but will need to see results.

FitbitI have had my Fitbit One for a few years now. A few months ago it wasn’t syncing so I put it away but I decided to try and get it working again. Today I got it to work so I will be tracking my steps and working on doing 10k steps a day again. I will also be using the Fitbit site to track calories too. I even synced my Aria scale with the right WiFi so now that should update my profile as well. When I am back in the states I will get one of those fancy new Fitbit Watches that tracks if I am dying and stuff. The mark up here in India is ridiculous so it will be cheaper to pick up while I am in the States.

Aside from that I have been hitting the gym successfully everyday or doing exercise at my apartment doing body weight exercises and yoga. I am doing my protein shakes in the morning before I go to the gym and then immediately after along with one protein shake before bed. The morning I have 2 eggs either hard boiled or prepared another way. My lunch is salad with chicken strips. Dinner is a vegetable dish with some other prepped meat mutton, chicken or rumaki this week. I have cut out the snacks for now and extra fruit. Drinking a good amount of water. I feel great. I get a solid chunk of sleep. I am able to even get a couple hours of gaming in the evening and an hour of reading. Plus 30 minutes of meditation in the morning and 30 minutes at night. Its a packed day with work but it is a good day.

This week I saw a little improvement. I weighed in at 251 and a BMI of 32%. Down a pound and same BMI. Visually I notice different shape and definition. I got fitted for some bespoke clothing yesterday and looking in the mirror while I was being measured I could see the change. Slow progress but only 3 weeks in. I did pick up some protein powder and a shaker. Also bought a generic Magic Bullet for making smoothies. I was surprised the taste was not awful and actually pretty good. Looking forward to seeing how this all continues to shape up. Cooked some awesome Mutton Masala yesterday which my house guests enjoyed. Always a nice feeling to get positive feedback on cooking. I cooked up the Mutton Masala and some chicken marinaded in Italiandressing. I have chicken livers and bacon but no Rumaki. I will try to make that tonight. That is the update. Riveting I know.

The more I research on weight training the more I realize I need to add more protein in my diet. I have some good sources in my whole food diet but I will be trying out some supplements soon with protein powder. I guess I will be moving towards a little more primal than paleo with my whey protein but I would rather be doing it right than doing it wrong. I’m not going to be replacing meals but supplementing my meals with protein shakes in the morning before my workout and right after. Rest of my diet should relatively stay the same. Lets see how this goes

Rainbow Unicorn Butterfly Kitten

I name my years and I like them to give meaning to what I want to accomplish in the year. We are at the halfway mark for this year and so I wanted to reflect a little on how the Year of the Rainbow Unicorn Butterfly Kitten was doing. It has had its downs with my father passing but aside from that major hit to my life I have been doing quite well in the realm of being more magical. In an overall sense life is magic.

So far this year I released 3 mobile games. I have sat in the best seats for multiple shows in Vegas where I drank champagne and ate chocolate covered strawberries. Granted by myself but I take myself on the best dates. I got to spend some time with my sister who I hadn’t seen in a few years. I’m working now on projects that I am really excited about. I finished out a one year yoga program that brought me a good bit of training and knowledge about myself. I had a number of beautiful people come into my life via couchsurfing. I started blogging again. I am working on being a better me physically, mentally and spiritually.

I look forward to the next 6 months of the Year of the Rainbow Unicorn Butterfly Kitten.

Meditations10 years ago in addition to yoga as a regular part of my life I was introduced to Dr. Wayne Dyers Meditations for Manifesting. While I attribute most of my success in life to hard work, smart decisions and being awesome I also like to think that these meditations being a regular part of my life have contributed a good bit to my success. If not for the actual manifesting what I want in life for at least putting me in the right mindset to attain what I want in life and give thanks. I highly recommend you check out the cd set which provides an Ah morning meditation and an Ohm evening meditation. You can find on Youtube the Ah meditation which is a good introduction to the experience.
